Veteran Swedish actor, Stellan Skarsgårdwho plays the villainous Baron Harkonnen in the film Dune of Denis Villeneuve will be honored by the Locarno Film Festival with the Leopard Club award.

Skarsgård began his career in Hollywood working with top directors such as Steven Spielberg in ‘Amistad’ (1997) and Gus Van Sant in ‘Good Will Hunting’, the same year.

Memorable roles in Gore Verbinski’s Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise and Mamma Mia!, among other films.

The festival in the Swiss city, dedicated to independent cinema will honor him with the Leopard Club award dedicated to an artist of the film industry who has left an “imprint on the collective imagination”.

Outside of Hollywood, Skarsgård’s stellar career includes groundbreaking work in European cinema and collaborations with directors such as Lars von Trier with whom he has made five films beginning with Breaking The Waves, which won the jury at Cannes in 1996.

Skarsgård is also very active on television. In 2019, he won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries for his role in the HBO drama “Chernobyl,” according to Variety.

In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award trip, the actor and his son Gustav Skarsgård will also travel to Locarno to present Chinese artist Huang Ran’s out-of-competition crime drama What Remains.
