‘iCarly’ actress says her mother did ‘intimate inspections’ during a bath: ‘I felt violated’

The actress again accused her mother, Debra McCurdy (1957-2013) of abuse. The former star of the ‘iCarly’ series has now said that she often underwent “intimate inspections” made by the matriarch of the family during the shower. “She was doing scans on her half breasts and vagina. She said she was looking for lumps and checking if I had cancer,” he said in an interview with Louis Theroux Podcast.

Jennette, now aged 31, recalled having suffered too much from her mother’s insistence on bathing her until she was 18. “It was uncomfortable for me. I knew it looked like a violation and I didn’t want that anymore. Once I tried to make it clear that taking a shower alone, she freaked out”, reported the actress who in her memoir “I’m Glad My Mother Died”, released last year had already raised other episodes of violence involving Debra, who died of breast cancer in 2013.

“I idolized her. But looking back now at that relationship, I see that it was scary. I had to do everything to please her”, recalls the interpreter of the character Sam Puckett in “iCarly. The actress even said that her mother had fear that she would not be cast in younger roles as she grew up and entered her youth.

“She weighed me daily and measured my thighs with a measuring tape. She taught me about diuretics, and together we read calorie books. At just 11 years old, my diet was restricted and all of this resulted in eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia.”

Jennette grew up in Southern California, and made appearances in commercials and television series such as “Mad TV”, “Malcolm in the Middle” and “CSI”, before landing the role in “iCarly”, which she worked between 2007 and 2012. She also starred in “Sam & Cat”, “Malcolm in the Middle”, “Zoey 101”, “Lincoln Heights”, “True Jackson, VP”‘ and “Victorious”. She abandoned her acting career in 2017 and has since worked as a writer, director, and podcaster.
