“We were able to feel their story, the movement and the power they have experienced,” said Sofia Krotsani, founder of Aelis
The French haute couture house Aelis worked with her Paris Opera and presented at the recent Fall/Winter 2023-24 collection fashion show dresses and suits created by recycled tutu skirts.
Aelis founder Sofia Krotsani said she was initially inspired by dandelions, which reminded her of the tutus worn by ballerinas.
This led her to meet with a friend from the costume department of the Paris Opera, who gave her some vintage costumes that were no longer used for performances.
“They were fantastic, I said don’t throw them away,” the Aelis founder told AFP. “We took them and created some new sets from them,” he added.
“We were able to feel their story, the movement and the power they’ve experienced,” he said.
Sofia Crotsani and Christine Neumeisterdirector of the costume department of the Paris Opera, collaborated to create the collection of clothes – works of art.
The ballet skirts, witnesses to a legacy of expertise and beauty, were treated like sculptures that harmoniously embody both the values of the Paris Opera and the ecological principles “beloved” by the fashion house, reports Aelis.
