Royal Caribbean is vying for the title of world’s largest cruise ship with Icon of the Seas, the multi-level, technicolor cruise ship that will embark on its maiden voyage next January.
Built in Turku, Finland, it includes six record-breaking waterslides, seven pools, nine whirlpools, 2,805 cabins and is 365 meters long.
The cruise ship offers guests the opportunity to visit eight “neighborhoods”, five of which focus on water: Thrill Island, with a record-breaking water park with thrilling slides; Chill Island, with multiple pools with spectacular ocean views and a bar which you reach by swimming.
Surfside is a family-friendly area with activities for children while Hideaway is a secluded paradise with a floating pool with unobstructed views.
At the AquaDome guests can enjoy views, a waterfall and entertainment alternatives. Icon of the Seas retains some of Royal Carribean’s signature ‘neighborhoods’: the Royal Promenade now boasts floor-to-ceiling ocean views and offers over 15 dining, café, bar and lounge options. Central Park is denser, full of vegetation and with additional options for dining and entertainment.
The Neighborhood Suite has been expanded with accommodations on four decks, including a private sundeck with pool, whirlpool and dining area. Among the returning favorites are Lost Dunes, a mini-golf experience but revamped, Adrenaline Rock for rock climbing enthusiasts and Absolute Zero, the largest ice rink in the entire Royal Caribbean fleet.

Icon of the Seas will set sail from Miami in January 2024 and will offer guests year-round seven-night Caribbean vacations. Each voyage will include a visit to CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island destination, and other stops along the way are expected to include Cozumel, Mexico, Philipsburg, St. Maarten and Roatan in Honduras.
