The fashion designer B Michael wrote his first book, detailing his friendship with the late pioneering Hollywood star Cicely Tyson.

The book “Muse: Cicely Tyson and Me, a Relationship Forged in Fashion” will be released on January 23 by the Amistad publishing house of the HarperCollins group.

The designer began writing the book in late 2020 with Tyson’s blessing.

The two first met in 2006 when B Michael agreed to dress the actress for Oprah Winfrey’s Legends Ball event.

A former Red Cross secretary, New York-born Tyson to immigrant parents from the Caribbean island of Nevis gave up office life after deciding “God didn’t put me on Earth to type for the rest of my life.” The decision led to modeling for fashion magazines such as Vogue and later acting classes at the Actors Studio.

Her interest in becoming an actress drew a backlash from her disciplinarian single mother, who told Tyson she could no longer live at home. So he moved.

The book began as a “photographic journey” of the friendship of the actress who embodied strong African-American women in the film, but the largest part of it is taken up by texts from their experiences at the Oscars, the White House and how they redefined the way women dress in a certain age.

Cicely Taishon, an iconic form of Broadway, in 1957 he began to act in his productions and in the following decade appeared in many shows. She also won supporting roles in a few feature films before playing Portia in the 1968 film version of The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter.

In 1974, she appeared in perhaps her best-known role, starring in the television drama The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Ernest James Gaines. Her performance as a 110-year-old woman whose life is depicted from slavery to the civil rights movement of the 1960s earned Tyson two Emmy Awards.

In addition to her acting career, Cicely Tyson was known for her relationship with jazz musician Miles Davis, to whom she was married from 1981 to 1998.
