The actor accused his ex-wife of selling her stake to a Russian oligarch, despite their verbal agreement
Brad Pitt blasts Angelina Jolie claiming he is attempting a “hostile takeover” of their family vineyard in France. Château Miraval is a vineyard in Provence, southern France, which was jointly owned by the former couple and has since become the focus of their feud.
The actor accused his ex-wife of selling her stake to a Russian oligarch, despite their verbal agreement not to sell their stake without each other’s consent. According to new documents, Pitt said Jolie and her former investment firm, Nouvel, orchestrated a “hostile takeover of the business,” according to “The Blast.”
“Jolie and Nouvel were obligated not to sell their stake without Brad’s consent,” the report states. “However, they did so secretly, through an alleged sale to Tenute del Mondo, a company controlled by Russian oligarch, Yuri Shetler. The defendants attempted a hostile takeover of the business.”
However, Angelina Jolie is “throwing down” the gauntlet to Brad Pitt, stating that her ex-husband’s actions were frivolous and malicious. The latest chapter in this long-running feud comes shortly after Pitt was accused of behaving like a “tempered child” over the sale of the vineyard, which the couple bought in 2008.
Pitt was also accused of spending millions of dollars on “vanity” projects at the vineyard, including building a recording studio and renovating the pool, according to a lawsuit filed by Jolie’s former investment firm Nouvel.
Jolie’s lawyers mocked the actor for introducing himself as a winemaker, arguing that he “deals with illusions, not with soil and grapes.”
The wine brand the former couple created with the help of winemaker Marc Perrin has earned them more than $16 million in profits, according to the FT. The couple divorced in 2016.
“During the years he’s reportedly invested in the business, the actor has filmed and appeared in dozens of films, not to mention made countless commercial appearances, jet-lagged around the world to film premieres and attended Hollywood parties,” according to the filing by the company representing Jolie. “Although he no doubt visited the vineyards to admire the work of the French workers who actually made the business successful, Pete is not a vintner.”
