Participant in the second season of “Blind Wedding USA”, shown in 2021, by Netflix, Nick Thompson said he regretted entering the reality show. He accused the streaming giant of exploitation and told of the difficulties he has been facing since coming out of anonymity. “It’s been hard to find a new job. People don’t take me seriously,” he complained about a supposed prankster reputation the show has garnered.
Thompson recalled that he was vice president of a software company for five years and, therefore, does not understand why he is currently unemployed for so long. He also said that he received US$ 10 thousand, approximately R$ 49 thousand for 10 weeks of shooting. “Casamento à Cegas” has become one of the main reality shows on Netflix and already has a fifth season, which premieres in 2023.
“When you think about the amount of money that’s being made, and how this is the way forward for future seasons, and the fact that anyone can come on and watch me… and I’m going to be homeless. Reality ruined mine. life,” he said in an interview with the Daily Mail. Nick also mentioned that he and other cast members were manipulated by producers and psychologists on the North American version.
Thompson, who married Danielle Ruhl on the show and divorced a year later, claimed the producers were “in control 24 hours a day”. “You are literally held captive like a prisoner and there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be considered an employee when you are technically under your employer’s control 24 hours a day.”
