Cillian Murphy he said he didn’t pursue a music career because he didn’t think he was “good enough.” In an interview with NME, the star of the movie “Oppenheimer” talked about his love for Frank Zappa and the Beatles. Inspired by the Beatles, Murphy and his brother even formed their own band: The Sons of Mr Green Genes, named after a Zappa tune from the 1969 album ‘Hot Rats’.

Murphy’s band’s songs were similarly experimental, with “wacky lyrics and endless guitar solos”. Eventually, they were offered a five-album deal by London-based Acid Jazz, but the actor and their brother turned it down, citing reasons of artistic independence.

Cillian Murphy when asked about the 2002 short film Watchmen – his only attempt at screenwriting – played it down.

I just never thought I was good enough really” he said. “That’s why, you know, I didn’t even go into music. I like to do one thing well enough” said the actor and added that this is unlikely to change in the future.
