‘Anna Delvey de Campo Grande’: social media scammer is exposed by alleged victims

by

Influencer João Vitor da Penha Silva was exposed on social media, accused of applying scams over the internet to gain access to designer clothes and luxury travel. On Tik Tok and Instagram, he shares international travel, 5-star accommodations and exclusive events.

Identified as @mrjoaovs on Tik Tok and @joavs on Instagram, the influencer interacted virtually with other people connected to the world of fashion. According to reports, João lives in Campo Grande, a neighborhood in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. From a humble family, he would have ambitions to live in a world beyond his financial reality and, for that, he shared false information with the aim of getting closer to his ‘victims’.

He is being called “Anna Delvey from Campo Grande” on social media, in a nod to Russian scammer Anna Sorokin, who tricked New York’s elite by pretending to be from a wealthy German family to profit millions. In 2019, she was arrested on multiple counts of attempted theft and fraud. Her story gained more projection after the launch of the Netflix series “Inventing Anna”.

Like Anna, João claimed to be the son of an Arab sheik, before revealing his true identity. He also guaranteed that he had direct contact with haute couture brands.

One of the videos in the “exposed” series explains that the influencer acted by promising to help women in exchange for money. “If I made a R$10,000 pix, he would take me to Balenciaga’s haute couture house in Paris. When we were there, he said that his bag hadn’t arrived and disappeared”, commented one of the unidentified victims. .

Influencer Mariane Esper also made one of the denunciation videos. She says that she became friends with João in 2022 on social media and that the influencer accompanied her on a trip to Paris. “I would have to pay for his ticket and he would do his ‘service’, which would be to photograph me and record all my content”, she said. João would also take her to an exclusive fashion event.

However, Mariane says that she had to pay all of João’s food and accommodation costs, which was not included in the agreement. Back in Brazil, she decided to move away and says that “his lifestyle is at the expense of others. Everyone banked on him”. She also says that the influencer mentioned that the series “Inventing Anna” was an inspiration.

Businesswoman Maria Caraldi commented on Tiktok that she almost fell into a scam by lending clothes, which should be returned, so that the influencer could take pictures. She says that João took 3 months to return the pieces and never published the promised publicity photos.

The user @yedamvr, from Twitter, said that, for years, João already used editing effects in his photos. A photograph in which he supposedly appeared with his father, in typical Arab clothing, would have the child’s face swapped with his. Records on a private plane would actually be from another profile. Images of her alleged closet would also belong to another influencer. His supposed home in New York would actually be a cafe.

O F5 tried to contact the influencer via Tik Tok, but received no response. He deleted his Instagram profile and maintains a private account.
