“This poor thing is all that is left of our Asia Minor generation.

It is our talisman, our memory, our identity.

It is bound with stories, with lives passed and lost and accompanied by legends and songs that are retold as one remembers them. Don’t forget my words!

It is the memories of our ancestors that make us who we are…”

The Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) presents the show “Tou tasin tou chrysumilitoun”, with the narrator Sasa Voulgari and musical accompaniment, for adult audiences and teenagers, on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 (9:00 p.m.), in the outdoor area of the Foundation’s building, in Tavros.

An old gold-embroidered garment, a precious rag travels from generation to generation and changes hands. Whoever passes it on to the next person says the same words, as they were told to him and as he remembers them.

Excerpts from testimonies, rare tales of Asia Minor with rich images, unique language that mirrors everyday life, vocal improvisations and traditional songs create a captivating narrative that takes the audience on a journey through time and place. The performance is organized in the context of the periodic exhibition “in a productive way – evidence from the restoration of the Asia Minor refugees” presented in the PIOP building, in Tavros, on the occasion of the commemoration events for the Asia Minor Disaster.
