The Sundance Institute Documentary Fund will support 23 selected independent documentary film projects this year through grants totaling more than $1 million. This initiative has previously funded notable films, including nominees for Film Oscars “Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution,” “Minding the Gap,” and “The Edge of Democracy.”

This year, the grant documentaries explore a wide range of topics from around the worldtell stories about indigenous and Native Americans, transgender youth, genealogical family secrets, people with disabilities, and an untitled film about the town of Uvalde, Texas.

Of the 23 films, six are in development, 14 are in production and three are in editing.

“The stories and themes explored by this incredibly talented group of artists beautifully embody the spirit of Sundance and the mission of our program today,” said Paola Moturadirector of the Documentary Film Fund.

“These works have enormous potential and remind us of the vital importance of bold, risk-taking independent filmmaking to a healthy democracy and a thriving civil society.”
