Trains are an integral part of everyday life in Japan and despite their presence being taken for granted, their many forms and colors add to the uniqueness of each neighborhood they pass through. Walking illustrator Shinjito Ogawa he captures with his pigment the scenery of the city and the warmth of the railway lines in all seasons.

Because trains and their infrastructure are so vital to cities in Land of the Rising Sun, are constantly changing and upgrading. The nostalgic snapshots Ogawa depicts are both a tribute to the trains and a testament to how they and the neighborhoods they traverse once looked.

Originally from Nagoya, Ogawa went to university in Tokyo where he graduated from the School of Law. He first worked in a Japanese car industry and then turned to illustration. An exhibition of his works is hosted at Ginza Tsutaya in Tokyo (1st to 30th September) and his nostalgic illustrations can be seen on his Instagram account.
