The co-creator and showrunner of the hit HBO series “The Last of Us”, Craig Mazinrevealed (via the Los Angeles Times ) that before the pandemic, he had pitched his own idea for the sixth film “Pirates of the Caribbean“, which, as mentioned, will practically be a reboot. To his surprise, Disney liked the idea and put it into development, but it is currently “frozen” due to the writers’ strike.

We presented it and we thought there was no way they would buy it because it’s too weird of an idea. And they bought it! Then Ted Elliott wrote a fantastic script and then the strike happened and everyone is waiting to see what happens“, said the screenwriter and producer.

As reported by “the Direct” until the Screenwriters Guild of America makes a new agreement with the film studios, the new project for the sixth film of “Pirates” will be on hold. It is noted that in late 2022, franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer stated that there are two separate films in development with Barbie star Margot Robbie committed to star in one of them.

The famous Disney franchise consists of “The Curse of the Black Pearl” in 2003, “Dead Man’s Chest” in 2006, “At World’s End” in 2007, “On Stranger Tides” in 2011 and “Dead Men Tell No Tales” in 2017. Starring Johnny Depp in the role of Jack Sparrow in all five films, the total grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide.
