Preta Gil was greatly applauded and heard shouts of support when she returned to the stage this Thursday (14), after 28 days of hospitalization at the Sírio-Libanês hospital, in São Paulo, where she underwent surgery to remove a tumor in her intestine and a total abdominal hysterectomy.
The singer sang alongside her father, Gilberto Gil, in a show on the “nós, a Gente” tour, at Espaço Unimed. The tour brings together the Gil family and will have its last performances this Friday and Saturday, in the capital.
“São Paulo, I love you”, she said while singing “Signs of Fire”, one of her hits. “I’m a black, bisexual woman, I just got cured of cancer and I’m single,” she said, in the middle of another song, “Go cross yourself.”
At the beginning of the treatment, Preta’s marriage to personal trainer Rodrigo Godoy ended amid rumors about betrayal. During her hospital stay, the singer accused her ex-husband of plotting a “sordid scheme” to live a double life.
Preta has been treating bowel cancer since January. The artist was released from the hospital on Sunday (10) and is spending time in São Paulo to recover.
“There were 28 days of hospitalization, challenging days, where I had to deal with many difficult things, but at the same time surrounded by competence and love, a lot of love”, she said after leaving Sírio-Libanês.
On this Thursday’s show, she paid tribute to her father. “I am the daughter of an immortal, Gilberto Gil,” she said. Gil sent a kiss to his daughter.
