Adding series to Marvel has increased in recent years and of those that have been shot to date, the “Loki” is definitely one of the most successful – it received 6 Emmy Award nominations. The first season came out in July 2021, had a total of six episodes and ended with a cliffhanger that confirmed the existence of a second season, which was almost expected. Thus, on October 6, the first episode of the second season for Marvel’s most beloved villain is expected on Disney+. It will also consist of six episodes, with the last one airing on November 9.

The cast and main contributors

The series could not exist without Tom Hiddleston in the role of Loki, which he has played for over a decade, since the first film “Thor” (2011). Also reprising their roles from the first season of the show are Owen Wilson as Mobius, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Eugene Cordero as Hunter K- 5E, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Neil Ellice as Hunter D-90 and Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains. New additions to the cast such as Rafael Casal, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr and Ke Huy Quan are also expected.

The second season is being written by Eric Martin and the main directors are Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who previously directed two episodes of another successful Marvel series called ‘Moon Knight’. In the roles of executive producers we meet both Tom Hiddleston and Michael Waldron, the main screenwriter of the first season. In the direction of photography we find Isaac Bauman, while Natalie Holt again takes over the music of the series.

A little recap of the first season – beware of spoilers!

The story of the first season begins immediately after the events of the movie “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), in which Loki steals the Tesseract. In the series we see Loki being held by the mysterious, shall we say, agency called the Time Variance Authority (TVA), where he is forced to help catch a dangerous version of himself.

A lot happens in this season, but the last episode titled “For All Time. Always” is what “opens” the door for the second season. Essentially, Loki and Sylvie have arrived at the Citadel at the End of Time, the place where He Who Remains resides. We remind you that He Who Remains or Kang the Conqueror is a scientist of the 31st century, who discovered the existence of the multiverse and other versions of himself. The version of him who goes by the name “He Who Remains”, created the Time Variance Authority (TVA) to prevent potentially destructive time warps in the future, following the multiverse war between himself and his other selves. So, in the final episode of the first season, He Who Remains, tired now, gives Sylvie and Loki a choice: kill him, ending the one and only sacred timeline at the risk of another war breaking out from his other selves, or succeed him in TVA leadership and schedule management.

Eventually, Sylvie sends Loki back to the TVA and kills He Who Remains for all the trouble he put her through, unleashing a multiverse with time warps that can no longer be controlled! At TVA headquarters, Loki tries to warn Hunter B-15 and Mobius about the other versions of He Who Remains but neither recognizes him. And that’s how the first season ends…
