Lucas Lima explains why he showed the book in text of separation with Sandy: ‘Reading swallows me’

Singer Lucas Lima explained why he placed the book The Death of Ivan Ilych, by Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910), as a symbol of his separation with singer Sandy, announced last month. Lima stated that he has a great relationship with literature and that he even stops having a social life to read a book.

“I feel like I’m more or less swallowed up by the habit of reading depending on the moment, depending, in fact, on the need. Sometimes the world is too much, life is too much and we need to get out a little. Not just from home, from the neighborhood, from the city, but from ourselves”, he stated in an article for the newspaper Estado de S. Paulo.

“I’ve gone as far as two years without picking up a book and I’ve had times of waking up earlier than I needed to to get half an hour more of Frodo and Sam. This happened unconsciously, but today I see it, I recognize it and I use reading calculatedly, whether as a tool for mental health, learning or just pure pleasure”, explained the musician.

Interestingly, Lucas Lima commented that he is even insulted by friends for choosing a book to read in a café while he is on a trip.

“I get insulted by friends when I choose the book of the month directly linked to trips I take. ‘Well, stop seeing and experiencing things in another country to spend an hour reading in the café?’. Yes, and it’s spectacular,” said the artist .

Even though they are separated, Sandy and Lucas Lima are touring together in Europe. Confirmation that the ex-couple would continue working together on the European tour was made during an appearance on the program Altas Horas last Saturday (30). After 24 years of marriage, the couple announced their separation on their social networks on September 25th.
