In a recent interview, Jada Pinkett Smith revealed that she and her husband have been living separately for seven years.

Jada Pinkett Smith just made a shocking revelation about her relationship with Oscar-winning actor Will Smith. More specifically, in a recent interview with Today’s Hoda Kotb about her upcoming book Worthy, the actress and screenwriter stated that she and her husband separated in 2016 and are “living apart” from each other , despite the fact that they often appear in public as a couple.

“Why did the glass break? It’s a lot of things, and I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted from trying,” Pinkett Smith said during the interview.

“I think we were both locked into what we thought the other person should be.”

Incidentally, the couple has already split when Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage at the 2022 Oscars because he made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, a result of her alopecia.

As for why she kept the breakup a secret, Kotb pressed the actress, and she eventually admitted it was because they “weren’t ready” and were still trying to figure out how to work with each other in terms of how which were presented to the public. “We hadn’t come to that,” he said.

Pinkett Smith and Smith have two children together, actor Jaden Smith and musician Willow Smith.

At one point, Pinkett Smith said she thought about getting a legal divorce, but couldn’t do it. “I made a promise that there would never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will face anything,” he declared. “I just couldn’t break that promise.”
