Bert Young, the famous actor, known for his role as Paulie Pennino in the iconic film series “Rocky”, died at the age of 83. His daughter Anne Morea Steingieser confirmed that he passed away on October 8.

While Yang’s career included notable performances in films such as ‘Chinatown’, ‘Once Upon A Time In America’ and TV series such as ‘The Sopranos’, he will always be remembered for his portrayal of the gruff and lovable Paulie, Sylvester Stallone’s brother-in-law in the ‘Rocky’ movies.

In the original 1976 film, Paulie’s character – a bitter butcher in Philadelphia – captivated audiences with his “raw” authenticity. His ability to embody middle-aged characters regardless of his age added depth to his roles.

The ‘Rocky’ franchise was an unprecedented success, catapulting Stallone into the limelight and securing Young’s place in cinematic history.

Stallone shared a photo from their first film together and wrote: “You were an incredible person and artist, you will be greatly missed by me and the world.”

The movie “Rocky” was nominated for 10 Oscars, with Young winning Best Supporting Actor. The film triumphed in three categories, including the important award for best film. However, Young and his co-star Burgess Meredith lost out to Jason Robards from ‘All The President’s Men’.

Despite his constant fear of losing ‘Rocky’, Paulie’s surprise at Rocky’s resilience brought laughter to audiences, making him a beloved character in the films.

It’s been a great ride and brought me to the public in a great wayYoung said in an interview with Celebrity Parents magazine in 2020. “I made him a tough guy with sensitivity. He really is a candy, even though he shouts a lot”.
