“My dear teacher, you will always be a shining example in my life…” said George Dalaras on Facebook
Well-known musicians and performers, as well as cultural associations that promote our musical tradition, said goodbye with their posts Chronis Aidonidis, the “nightingale” of Thrace, who passed away at the age of 95.
“My dear teacher, you will always be a shining example in my life…”stated George Dalaras on Facebook about the man who “traveled” our traditional music to the ends of the earth. Specifically, the well-known musician and singer, who had collaborated with the deceased, wrote the following: “An Archangel on earth! Chronis Aidonidis was the melodist of the untold myths and legends of our historical tradition. A herald of our ancient musical lineage. He hoarded in his long journey on earth music, idioms, songs, precious gifts and heirlooms, and gave them generously to his disciples and to the whole world.
We had a deep and long-lasting relationship and I am lucky for the endless hours in the studio at the “Nightingales of the East”, at the concerts in Athens and also at the triathlon in his hometown of Evros. We loved Chronis as a family. He lulled children and grandchildren with his voice. My dear teacher, you will always be a shining example in my life…».
Glykeria: “I say goodbye to him with immense respect and emotion!”
With her own post, Glykeria said goodbye to the great teacher of traditional music saying: “Chronis Aidonidis was for all of us singers one of the most important teachers of our traditional music! He left behind a great legacy, a worthy legacy for the new generation! I will never forget that he was by my side at my first big concert in Lycabettus! I say goodbye to him with immense respect and emotion!».
There are also many cultural associations that expressed their sadness for the death of the performer with the melodious voice, such as the association with the name “Archive of Musicological Tradition “CHRONIS AEDONIDIS” and based in Alexandroupoli Evros, which was founded in 2002 with the aim of spreading the Greek Music and Folklore Tradition and recording the life and the work of the leading Thracian Chronis Aidonidis.
The Association sent, through its president Apostolos Efraimidis, its condolences: “It is with great pain that we announce that our beloved Master Chronis Aidonidis is no longer with us. At the age of 95 and after 75 years of continuous ministry and contribution to teaching, saving, spreading and recording the musical tradition of Thrace, he is heading to Heaven, leaving behind valuable musical recordings and four generations of students and collaborators who will perpetuate the name, the vision and teaching of es aei. Forever his memory and the gratitude of all of us for his contribution».
