The actress’ face was used in an online ad without her permission
Scarlett Johansson sued an AI app that used her name and image in an ad created without her permission.
The 22-second ad, posted on X, formerly Twitter, by an image-making app called “Lisa AI: 90’s Yearbook & Avatar”, used real footage of the actress, to create a fake image and dialogue for her.

Representatives for the 38-year-old actress confirmed to Variety that she is not a representative of the company and that appropriate legal action has been taken since she was spotted on October 28. “We do not take these things lightly. As is our usual course in these cases, we will address this with all legal remedies available to us,” said her attorney, Kevin Yorn. The ad has since been removed.
The video begins with a behind-the-scenes clip of Johansson on the set of Marvel’s Black Widow. “What’s up guys; I’m Scarlett and I want you to come with me…she says, before the screen cuts to AI-generated photos that look like her. A voice impersonating the actress continues to speak to promote the app: “It’s not just limited to avatars. You can also create images with texts and videos. I think you shouldn’t miss it».

The fine print below the ad reads: “Images produced by Lisa AI. It has nothing to do with this person». Multiple Lisa AI apps remain on the App Store and Google Play.
Scarlett Johansson is not the only actress to speak out against the use of her name and image by Artificial Intelligence programs. Last month, Tom Hanks also posted on Instagram to inform his fans about a dental program that used an image of him. “Caution! … I have nothing to do with it“, he wrote on his Instagram story.
