The Tennessean has named Brian West, a 35-year-old award-winning journalist from Arizona, as its new expert on Taylor Swift reporting.
After a two-month search, Gannett, the largest newspaper publishing company in the U.S., has hired America’s first reporter to cover only issues related to Taylor Swift.

West, who recently moved to Swift’s home state of Tennessee and previously worked at local news outlets AZCentral and 12 News, will begin by documenting the singer’s “music and cultural impact” for USA Today and more than 200 local newspapers.
The ad posted in September for the job made headlines. She specifically mentioned that an editor with video and photography skills is wanted to cover stories about the importance of music and the pop star’s career choices.
On November 6, West uploaded a video to YouTube explaining why he should be selected for the job. The journalist cited 13 – Swift’s lucky number – reasons why he should be hired, which included his wealth of journalistic experience, his ability to record on camera, edit and interview, and his status as a Swiftie (a fan of Taylor Swift).

Speaking to Variety, West likened the job to sports journalism. “I would say this position is no different than being a sports journalist and a home team fanhe said.
