Meghan Markle reveals that she ‘feels better’ as she distances herself from royalty

Meghan Markle, 40, revealed late on Tuesday (9) that she feels “much better” after telling Oprah Winfrey she suffered from suicidal thoughts while pregnant with her son Archie. This was the Duchess of Sussex’s first interview after her and Prince Harry’s bombastic appearance on Oprah’s March show..

Meghan talked about cutting coupons as a child, working as a waitress and lobbying Republican senators for maternity leave. The duchess, who wore a Remembrance poppy in an all-black outfit, answered questions from the New York Times DealBook.

She told interviewer Andrew Ross Sorkin that her mental health is in a much better place now that she and Harry are no longer working as senior royalty.

Sorkin interrupted the conversation to ask, “Are you feeling better about everything?” Meghan replied, “Yes”. Sorkin said that “there was a time when much of the world was asking this question.”

“Yeah, I’m feeling a lot better about everything, thanks,” Meghan replied.

The duchess began to cry earlier this year when she told Oprah she “didn’t want to be alive anymore.” She claimed that she begged the royal family for help, but it was Harry who saved her.

Sorkin asked the Duchess of Sussex about her connections to American politicians Susan Collins of Maine and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia. Royalty is always out of political affairs.

But despite this attitude, Meghan admitted that she called the two women while lobbying for paid parental leave in the United States. They said that Meghan introduced herself as Duchess of Sussex and they didn’t know how she got her numbers.

Sorkin asked if she was “working on the phones”. “You’ve made this issue, and women, a central issue for you. I’m sure there are people in the audience who are saying, ‘I don’t understand, she has this great privilege, why is this her subject?'”

“But even before I had any privileges in my life, when my life and my lifestyle were very, very different, I always stood up for what was right,” said the Duchess.

Meghan said he has been out of the United States for a long time. “I lived in Canada for seven years to work, then moved to the UK, and to come back and now be a mother of two, and see that the US is one of only six countries that don’t offer any paid national leave forms for parents, it just didn’t make sense. ”

She told the interviewer that she became interested in political issues when she was just 11 – and that she wrote letters when she saw “something wrong”. “On that, I said, well, ‘let me write you a letter and let me get on the phone and make some calls and see if I can help.’ For me it’s a very logical and obvious thing to do,” he said.

However, the Duchess has admitted that Harry and royalty have a “don’t get involved” rule, but she doesn’t see this as a political issue. “Paid leave, from my point of view, is a humanitarian issue.”
