The ruthless Countess of Buckingham, Mary Villiers, who was much loved by the royal family, is played by the award-winning actress Julianne Moore in the seven-part drama series, “Mary & George”. Nicholas Galizin appears with her.

The new period drama series, which is inspired by Benjamin Wooley’s book ‘The King’s Assassin’, goes back in time to 17th century England to tell the amazing story of this woman who raised the handsome and charismatic son her, George, to seduce King James I to become his all-powerful lover.

The teaser released offers a first insight into how “through outrageous scheming, a poor woman using her strength and wit, becomes one of the richest with the most powerful son ever at the English court by her side during a difficult time for the country».

The script for the series has been written by British playwright David Moore, who is also producing alongside Oliver Hermanus, Julianne Moore and Lisa Marshall. Hermanous is the main director of the series. Rounding out the cast are Tony Curran as the “King of Great Britain and Ireland” and Laurie Davidson, Trine Deerholm and Sean Gilder, among others.

According to Deadline, “Mary & George” is expected to air in 2024 on Sky Atlantic in the UK and Starz in the US.
