The second episode of the sixth season of the series “The Crown” entitled ‘Two Photographs’ begins with interviews with two photographers: Mario Brenna, an Italian paparazzi and Duncan Muir, a royal photographer.

Both Brenna and Muir talk about their roles and work, and the episode contrasts Brenna’s photo of Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed kissing on Jonikal, Mohammed Al Fayed’s yacht, with the Prince’s photo Charles and his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, at Balmoral Castle.

Duncan Muir, played by Scottish actor Forbes Mason, introduces himself as follows: “My name is Duncan Muir. I am 57 years old. I am a professional photographer working in Ballater near Aberdeen in Scotland. My work is traditional portraiture: weddings, graduations, things like that. But my passion, and what I’m best known for, are photos of the royal family. Where the queen goes, I gohe says.

No photographer named Duncan Muir really existed. He appears to be a fictional character from Netflix. However, the character could be symbolic of the good working relationship some members of the royal family have built up with photographers over the years, British press reports said.

Duncan is the opposite of Mario Brennan. While the latter is known for photographing celebrities for money by invading their privacy, Duncan does it because he has a love for the royal family.

The photography of Prince Charles and the sons was actually done by Tim Graham, photographer of the royal family.
