The National Opera is sad to say goodbye to three distinguished members of its artistic family, the soprano Alexandra Matthaioudakis, the mesophone Lina Tendzeris and the bassist, member of the ELLS Choir, Pavlos Sampsakis who have passed away.

The high-pitched singer Alexandra Matthaioudakia member of the ensemble of the protagonists of the ELLS with studies at the Athens Conservatory, the Royal Academy of London and the Citylit melodrama school, began her collaboration with the National Opera in 1989. Over three decades she performed treble roles in numerous productions such as Heinzel and Gretel, The Return, The Magic Court, The Psychic, Traviata, The House of the Three Girls, Adriani Lecouvre, The Secret Marriage, Thaïs, The Marriage of Figaro, Peter Grimes, The Kritikopoula, Remember Those Years (Tribute to Sakellaridis), The skinny girls of Athens, Christina, The barber of Seville, Rigoletto, The cunning little fox, I want to see the Pope, etc.

The mezzo-soprano Lina Tendziri (center photo), studied at the National Conservatory and the Chigiana Academy of Music in Siena, collaborated with the National Opera from 1979 to 1999 starring in over 35 opera productions. On the stage of the Olympia Theater she performed with particular success roles such as, among others, Atchusena in Trovatore, Charlotte in Verthero, Fenena in Nabucco, Lola in Cavalleria rusticana and Maddalena in Rigoletto.

The bass player Pavlos Sampsakis, studied at the Contemporary Conservatory of Athens, was a member of the ELLS Choir since 1991, while from 1997 he began to perform solo roles in ELLS productions such as, among others, Nabucco, The Tales of Hoffmann, Andrea Senier, Othello, Tosca etc. On December 9, he was to perform the role of the Customs Officer in Boehme of the National Opera.
