Opus Entretenimento, the producer that takes care of the career of singer Alexandre Pires, said it was surprised by the Federal Police operation last Monday (4) that arrested businessman Matheus Possebon, and carried out searches and seizures at the singer’s house in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo.
The suspicion about Possebon and Pires is that they are part of an illegal mining scheme in the Ianomâmi Indigenous Land, in the state of Roraima. An investigation indicates that the artist had received R$1 million from a mining company under investigation.
In the note, sent to the F5, Opus states that it is unaware of investigations against Pires and Possebon. “Opus Entretenimento, present in the events market for 47 years, promoting culture and entertainment in the country for decades, publicly informs that it is unaware of any illegal activity allegedly related to the company’s employees and partners”, says the company.
Opus also says it trusts the leader of the band Só Pra Contrariar. “In relation to Alexandre Pires, one of the great references of Brazilian music, Opus, responsible for managing his career, expresses its solidarity with the artist, trusting in his suitability and complete clarification of the facts”, states the note.
“Opus maintains its commitment to promoting culture and bringing entertainment to the Brazilian public”, completes the statement from the company that manages Alexandre Pires.
According to the Federal Police, the scheme would be aimed at “washing” cassiterite illegally removed from indigenous land, in which the ore would be declared as originating from a regular mine on the Tapajós River, in Itaituba (PA), and supposedly transported to Roraima for treatment.
The official PF portal informs that the agents served two arrest warrants, six search and seizure warrants, issued by the 4th Federal Court of the Judiciary Section of Roraima, in Boa Vista (RR), Mucajaí (RR), São Paulo (SP), Santos (SP), Santarém (PA) and Uberlândia (MG).
The agents searched Alexandre Pires’ property for documents that indicated possible payments from the mining company to the artist. Before the apartment in Santa Catarina, according to the newspaper O Globo, there was also a raid on a cruise where Pires was performing.
