TUI: Greek destinations are starring this year

by

Strong demand for holidays in the summer, and even earlier this year, states the largest European tourism organization TUI Group, which estimates that its activity will reach pre-pandemic levels this year.

In fact, Greek destinations play a leading role in the preferences of TUI customers, explain to “Kathimerini” its executives, emphasizing that in some markets, such as France, Greece is the number one choice for this summer vacation.

TUI Group announced improved results for the last quarter on Tuesday and presented its estimates for 2022, noting, among other things, that it observes for the second consecutive year an increase in the average price, of 22%. It attributes these increases to more expensive choices of its customers, such as better rooms and more services. It is recalled that in a recent interview with “K” the CEO of TUI Group, Friedrich Jussen, predicted that this year it will be able to bring 3 million travelers to Greece compared to about 2.8 million in 2019.

TUI stated yesterday that it finds “a very strong booking dynamic for the summer of 2022, which due to the Omicron variant showed a short-term decline only at the end of November and December. “At the moment, there is still a trend towards short-term bookings, but confidence in progress towards ending the pandemic is growing and holiday bookings are increasing significantly.”

The reasons for this, according to the German group, are “above all the increased demand for organized holidays as well as for higher value offers and more additional services, for example upgrades in the category of hotels or rooms”. TUI Group CEO Friedrich Jussen said on Tuesday that “we expect a strong summer of 2022. There is accumulated demand among customers. “We see this in all European markets.” “Every step towards normalcy gives people more confidence and the demand for vacations increases immediately. “Despite the continuing trend towards very short bookings, we are seeing strong demand for the summer of 2022.” As of January 30, 3.5 million TUI customers had booked a trip for the summer of 2022. This is around 72 % of the level of summer 2019 for the same time of year. However, “the new bookings now exceed 100% of the level of the summer of 2019, so the group expects that the summer of 2022 will be close to the level before the crisis,” he added. Regarding prices, TUI announced that “people book higher quality vacations and plan a higher budget for their summer vacations. Thus, the average prices increase further compared to the previous year and in particular by 22% “.

The Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias confirms in his statements that “the image we get from the tour operators, the airlines, the hotels, the cruise, is very good. From the first days of 2022, we see a vertical increase in bookings “.
