TUI stated yesterday that it finds “a very strong booking dynamic for the summer of 2022, which due to the Omicron variant showed a short-term decline only at the end of November and December. “At the moment, there is still a trend towards short-term bookings, but confidence in progress towards ending the pandemic is growing and holiday bookings are increasing significantly.”
The reasons for this, according to the German group, are “above all the increased demand for organized holidays as well as for higher value offers and more additional services, for example upgrades in the category of hotels or rooms”. TUI Group CEO Friedrich Jussen said on Tuesday that “we expect a strong summer of 2022. There is accumulated demand among customers. “We see this in all European markets.” “Every step towards normalcy gives people more confidence and the demand for vacations increases immediately. “Despite the continuing trend towards very short bookings, we are seeing strong demand for the summer of 2022.” As of January 30, 3.5 million TUI customers had booked a trip for the summer of 2022. This is around 72 % of the level of summer 2019 for the same time of year. However, “the new bookings now exceed 100% of the level of the summer of 2019, so the group expects that the summer of 2022 will be close to the level before the crisis,” he added.
