From 1978 until today, the Onassis Foundation has been systematically working to unleash forces abroad, through the Scholarship Program, focusing on the sciences of the future. The City of Tomorrow reopens its doors and invites new people with innovative ideas and bright minds to inhabit it. Applications to the Onassis Foundation Scholarship Program for the 2024-25 academic year have begun.

Stelios discovers new drugs with the help of Artificial Intelligence. Christina studies the use of nanoparticles to treat cancer. Irini opens new paths in environmental policy. Dimitris is looking for new equations in theoretical physics. Christina lays the foundations of digital ethics. Melina highlights the work of K. P. Cavafy in France. Katerina builds new communication bridges in digital media. They, along with 7,660 other residents, are breaking new ground with their knowledge, talent and ideas, which make our society better.

Applicants are requested to carefully study the text of the Scholarship Announcement which describes the scholarship terms and conditions, majors and study levels. Applications and required supporting documents are submitted exclusively and only electronically. Applicants who wish to apply must create a personal account in the Onassis Directory through the link below and successfully pass the initial application stage to be able to complete the application and gradually upload the required supporting documents by the application deadline and supporting documents. The online application can only be submitted successfully if it is accompanied by the corresponding required supporting documents.

Ioannis Katsantonis – Scholar 2021

He was awarded the Doctoral Student Rising Star Award for 2023 by the Cambridge University Education Department. His research focuses on investigating human agency in academic achievement and discovering the underlying mechanisms through which students can actively contribute to their own academic achievement and empower themselves in their learning.

Panagiotis Kyriakopoulos – Scholar 2019

He is included in Forbes Greece’s “30 under 30” list for 2023, thanks to his research and contribution to highlighting the importance of technology parks in Greece and abroad. It has been honored with the British Council’s Study UK Alumni Award 2022, in the Business and Innovation category. He has also received a Research Excellence Award from the University of Glasgow’s Adam Smith Business School for two consecutive years for his research on technology parks, SME internationalisation, international entrepreneurship and international business strategy.

Leonidas Romanos Davranoglou – Scholar 2016

He is among the team of Oxford University researchers who in November 2023, during a research trip to the jungles of Papua, discovered that the rare mammal named Attenborough’s Echidna has not disappeared.

Maria Roussou – Scholar 2018

She was awarded in 2023 by the National Botanical Society of France for her thesis in the field of archaeobotany, on the topic “Evolution of the ancient environment and exploitation of plant resources in the Pre-ceramic Neolithic Age in Cyprus”.

Eugenia Arseni – Scholar 2004

Honored with the British Council’s Study UK Alumni Award 2023, in the Culture and Creativity category.

Vasilios Dimakopoulos – 2021 Scholar

He is included in Forbes Greece’s “30 under 30” list for 2022. The startup Aisthesis Medical, in which he is co-founder and co-managing director, collects biomarkers and clinical information, with the aim of providing a personalized plan to determine surgical complications.

Vasilios Koutsoubas – Scholar 2022

He is included in Forbes Greece’s “30 under 30” list for 2022. He is co-founder of the non-profit organization WeFor, which deals with the biggest challenges of generation Z.

Sozita Guduna – Scholar 2002

Honored with the British Council’s Study UK Alumni Award 2022 in the Culture and Creativity category.

Manolis Efthymiou – 2021 Scholar

He is a member of the AMZ Driverless team of the ETH University of Zurich, which was declared first in the internationally recognized Formula Student Germany competition, in the Engineering Design category.

Araseli Laimou – Scholar 2010

Araceli Laimou’s first feature film premiered at the 74th Locarno Film Festival, where it received a Special Mention and was awarded in the Best First Feature Film category.

Sotiris Petridis – Scholar 2015

The film “Re-Live”, which he made together with Tania Nanavrakis, was awarded as Best Science Fiction Film at Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival 2022 in San Diego.

Alexandros Mezari – Scholar 2016

He was awarded the Humboldt-Prize 2022 by the Humboldt University of Berlin for the best doctoral thesis of the year, on the subject of the criminal responsibility of the members of the Board of Directors with supervisory responsibilities in a Public Company.

Ethalia Angelopoulou – Scholar 2015

As a member of the research team of Professor of Neurology Mr. Sokratis Papageorgiou, he was awarded the first prize in the Health and Social Affairs Sector, in the Applied Idea Category of the Digital Government Awards 2022 of the Ministry of Digital Government.
