In second place is ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’
The movie “Wonka”which returned to theaters this time with the talented Timothée Salamee, topped the box office on New Year’s Eve, ending 2023 on a sweet, chocolate-scented note, Variety reports.
Paul King’s film with a stellar cast including Olivia Colman, Hugh Grant, Sally Hawkins, Matthew Baynton, Rowan Atkinson and Jim Carter (Jim Carter) grossed $22.7 million over the weekend and $29.5 million over the four-day holiday weekend for a US total of $140.2 million. In the rest of the world the profits of the famous production of Warner Bros. with a budget of $125 million are close to $400 million.
In second place is Jason Momoa’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” with $19.5 million in its second weekend, while Universal Pictures’ “Migration” is third with $17.2 million.
Rounding out the top five are the films “The Color Purple” with $13 million and “Anyone But You” with $9 million, while George Clooney’s “The Boys in the Boat” follows in sixth place with $8.3 million.
