Presenter Evaristo Costa, 47, was discharged from a hospital in the city of Cambridge, England, after treating complications related to Crohn’s Disease. According to Costa, he must now continue treatment at home.
“The time has come to say goodbye. The discharge has come”, he began. “I’m not leaving with the infection fully controlled according to the latest tests, but I will continue treatment at home with oral antibiotics”, added the former Globo, who also thanked him for the messages of support during the six days of hospitalization.
Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract. Evaristo Costa was diagnosed with the disease a few years ago. Over the past week, he reported experiencing severe abdominal pain, as well as diarrhea, fever and weight loss. “This all leads to weakness, fatigue,” he said.
The ex-Globo and ex-CNN Brasil said that this ended up leaving him with a vulnerable body. “Low immunity leaves my body open for viruses and bacteria to enter, as happened to my leg a month ago. If I don’t take care of myself, I can have complications such as anemia and serious infections.”
In November last year, the journalist had to be hospitalized and the diagnosis was erysipelas, a type of skin infection on the leg.
