“There’s no Ken without Barbie,” Ryan Gosling said in a statement after the Oscar nominations were announced.

The star of “Barbie”who received a Best Supporting Actor nomination, expressed his disappointment that the director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie were left out of the race at this year’s Oscars, in the categories of Best Director and Best Actor respectively.

“I’m honored to be nominated by my peers alongside such remarkable artists in a year with so many great films. And I never thought I’d say this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that this is my role as a plastic doll named Ken.” the actor noted in a statement provided to CBS News. “But there’s no Ken without Barbie, and there’s no “Barbie” movie without her Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbiethe two people most responsible for this film that made history and that you honor worldwide”.

It is noted that Margot Robbie was nominated as a producer of the film while Gerwig received a nomination in the category “Best Adapted Screenplay”.

“No recognition would be possible for anyone in the film without their talent, courage and genius. To say I’m disappointed they aren’t nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.” Gosling continued.

“…however, I’m so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to this groundbreaking film.” concluded.

According to Variety, it is the actor’s third nomination after “Half Nelson” (2006) and “La La Land” (2016).
