Oliver Stone apologized for criticizing the blockbuster “Barbie” directed by Greta Gerwig, saying that I now “appreciate the film for its originality and themes.”

Stone, in an interview with City AM in June 2023, which Deadline reported on Sunday, had said that Ryan Gosling he is “wasting his time” if he makes movies like this for the money. “He should do more serious films. He shouldn’t be part of this infantilization of Hollywood.”

However, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), as reported by the Guardian newspaper, the director said that when he made the comments he had not seen “Barbie” and “had little or no knowledge of the work beyond its title.”

He continued by saying: “I was able to see ‘Barbie’ in a cinema in July and appreciated the film for its originality and themes. I found the filmmakers approach definitely different than I expected. I apologize for speaking ignorantly.”

And he added: “Barbie’s box office boosted the morale of our business a lot, which was welcome. I wish Greta and the whole Barbie team the best of luck at the Oscars.”
