Actor and presenter Bruno de Luca, 39, grew up in the public eye. He debuted in soap operas at the age of ten and spent five teenage years making “Malhação” (1995, Globo), in addition to acting in films. But since 1996, De Luca has invested in the careers of reporter and presenter, distancing himself from dramaturgy.
Nothing was an accident. De Luca graduated in journalism and cinema at PUC-Rio (Pontifical Catholic University) in Rio de Janeiro and in directing at the New York Film Academy, in the United States.
“I don’t miss doing soap operas or series. I want to do things as a presenter on open TV. I realized that I love acting, but I can’t stand the wait, just acting. waiting for my dressing room scene and everyone doing a thousand things.”
For ten years he has been ahead of the program A Eliminação BBB (Multishow), which started a new season with Big Brother Brasil 22, in January. He says he often jokes with friends that this is the second best job in the world. The first is the presenter of the travel reality show “Vai Para Onde?”, a project that he presented to Multishow and has been on the air since 2007.
Despite all the challenge of directing a live program about a reality show and with passionate fans, De Luca says that directing the program A Eliminação BBB is a job he would do forever. “It’s really cool because human behavior within Big Brother is a subject that I love and live that’s something I love to do.”
De Luca says he is loving presenting this new season of the show alongside presenter Ana Clara, 24 – who replaces Vivian Amorim, 28, on maternity leave. He explains that he loves hosting the show with the two of them, even though they have totally different styles.
The presenter ended last season with a lot of complicity with Vivian. While with Ana Clara, he identifies with the style of treating everything with more informality. But De Luca warns that soon Vivian will be back on the BBB Network. “She left for an amazing, wonderful and inspiring reason which is Malu’s pregnancy.”
Working with Ana Clara, however, is nothing new for him, as the two have already done some shows last year. “We have a similar style of making fun, not caring about being made fun of and treating everything more informally. I think it has to do with the fact that we are carioca, this less carefree, uncommitted way with so much seriousness.”
In addition to the new studio colleague, De Luca also approved the novelty this year of interacting with the public through Whatsapp. For him, the new tool gives the viewer a feeling of personalized service, facilitates communication, sending videos, photos, opinions and interaction. “Often they ask questions and comments that we don’t even have the courage to do.”
Regarding viewers’ complaints about the lukewarm start of BBB 22, the presenter says that each edition of the program has its history and the chemistry between the cast dictates a lot how the paths will be. He remembers that last year the public complained a lot about the disagreements and how the atmosphere in the house caused anguish. “There’s a lot to happen, I think the crowd is a little too anxious.”
After the end of BBB 22, the presenter resumes the recordings of another season of Vai Para Onde?. This time, he will be accompanied on the trip by his fiancee Sthéfany Vidal, with whom he has been together since January 2020. “We have traveled several times in these two years of relationship, but I have never done a married season. cool for me and the audience.”
He says that the travel reality show has followed what was happening in his life for the last 16 years. There were trips as a backpacker, in the millionaire tab, middle class and camping. “I think this couple is going to go down very well now, I’m dying to live this experience and share it with the public as well.”
De Luca says that reality is his love and pride because he fought hard to make the program happen. According to him, it adds a lot professionally and as a human being to travel the world and meet new people. “The friends I’ve made around the world, the things I’ve learned. It’s a program that I would do until I was old, having a window to show it to me, I can do it forever. My great passion is Vai Para Onde?
Before doing the reality show, De Luca says he lived in a bubble in Barra da Tijuca, west of Rio, with everyone dressing more or less the same, speaking the same slang and with the same opinions. “When I started traveling I saw that the world is very big and my core there in Barra da Tijuca is too small for my opinions about people, the judgments I had.”
As he never stops, he should soon return with Vinho com o De Luca, a program he created in the pandemic on his IGTV channel, to discuss more serious matters with guests. He says he really likes to talk, away from the cameras, about more serious topics with his friends and to hear everyone’s opinion. “It’s a need I’ve had for a long time to talk about more serious subjects, because on TV or in my work in general I’ve always been invited to do more fun, funnier, lighter things.”
Although he doesn’t miss acting, De Luca fondly remembers his time in “Malhação”, which came to an end in January after 26 years on the air. He claims that the soap opera was important in his career, even though he had done other works before. “But it was the first project that I had to hope a lot to be approved. I did the pilot of ‘Malhação’, which we had to pray to be approved by Boni. It was a victory to have managed to score the project and I stayed for five years over there.”
He remembers that from 12 to 17 years old he lived a learning phase in “Malhação”. According to him, it was difficult and, at the same time, a lot of fun to spend his adolescence recording. After asking to leave the serial, De Luca says that he was very sad and felt jealous to see other actors in the project that he participated from the beginning.
Today, he believes that life is made up of cycles that end for others to begin. “I, nowadays, am less emotional about it, I think it was very good while it lasted, but that’s it, we have to update ourselves. It’s no use getting attached to something that maybe doesn’t make as much sense to people today, you have to keep up with young people.”
In parallel with his work as a presenter, De Luca produces content for his social networks and YouTube channel. He also has a production company in partnership with former player Ronaldo Nazário, Beyond Filmes, which produces audiovisual content for the former player, his career and Ronaldo TV, at Twich. At the company, he is responsible for writing content and for the creative part.
About to turn 40 in June, he is working on the script for the play “I did 40, deal with it”, which talks about his life. “I’m telling all my stories, from how I got into television, the things I’ve been through, the tricks I’ve had to do to keep my career going, she’s super funny.”
