In an interview on a radio show, actress Demi Moore, 61, said she would rather “take joy and love” for who Bruce Willis, 68, is now rather than lament his current condition. Her ex-husband suffers from dementia.
The actress also asked families who have people with dementia at home to simply forget what they were like before the diagnosis in order to better deal with them now.
“When you let go of who they were or who you think they were [deveriam ser] you can really stay in the present and take in the joy and love that is present.”
Bruce Willis announced his retirement at the beginning of 2022 due to aphasia — a language disorder caused by brain damage. Even before that, his family, who now lives in California, had already been getting rid of some of the properties Bruce had accumulated.
In late 2023, Tallulah Willis, one of Willis’ daughters, spoke about her father’s current health status. In an interview with “The Drew Barrymore Show”, she highlighted that, despite the challenges of the actor’s diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia, he remains the same person loved by his family.
“He’s the same, which in that respect I think I’ve learned is the best thing you can ask for. I see the love when I’m with him, and it’s my dad and he loves me, which is really special,” Tallulah stated.
The presenter questioned the artist’s heiress about the family’s decision to be so open about her father’s diagnosis. “I think there are two reasons. On the one hand, it’s who we are as a family, but it’s also really important for us to spread awareness [sobre a doença].”
