As he celebrates his 30th birthday, let’s take a look at the artist’s life story, which is admittedly interesting…

After going through the X Factor audition process through his mother Anne Twist, the British artist first sang for Simon Cowell and the other judges, showing off his vocal prowess on Train’s ‘Hey Soul Sister’. However, the piece fell flat and it seemed that Harry’s chances of making it were, perhaps, over before they had even begun, as Simon brought the performance to an abrupt end. But after being given a second chance, the singer performed Stevie Wonder’s ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ acapella and his journey in the music industry had just begun.

Despite trying his hand as a solo singer, the X Factor judges – and Simon in particular – had other ideas for Harry as he made plans to form a boy band. Picking Harry, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson from the bootcamp round, the global phenomenon of “One Direction” was born.

The artist definitely stood out from the start, with his curly locks and cheeky smile, and became an instant ‘favourite’ with viewers, who watched the band make it all the way to the final, before finishing in third place.

Although the band didn’t win the show, there’s no doubt they went on to be the ITV talent show’s biggest success story.

They waited nine months before releasing their debut single, “What Makes You Beautiful”which topped the charts in the UK and reached No. 4 in the US.

During his time with the band, Harry co-wrote several of the band’s hits including debut single ‘Story Of My Life’ and ‘Live While We’re Young’. The band has sold 70 million records worldwide and is still one of the best-selling boy bands in the world to date.

Most notably for Harry at the time, was his May-December romance with the late Caroline Flack, whom she met during an appearance on the X Factor spin-off show. The relationship caused a sensation because of the age difference between Harry, then 17, and Caroline, then 31. The romance was short-lived and it was reported that Harry was the one who ended their relationship.

During his tenure with the band, harry styles also dated taylor swift, leading their die-hard fans to suspect that they would be walking hand-in-hand in New York’s Central Park in December 2012. However, their relationship didn’t last long as they reportedly broke up after an argument during a romantic Caribbean getaway just a month later, with a source claiming the artist “said something he shouldn’t have”.

The following year, the singer was romantically linked to supermodel, Kendall Jenner. Despite being spotted looking cozy again two years later on a yacht in Anguilla and again at the Met Gala in 2019, as well as making a flirty display on James Corden’s ‘The Late Late Show’, the two are said to be “they’re just good friends.” The band’s last album was ‘Four’.

Harry was the last band member to release new music, having joined forces with Columbia Records to work on his solo project. The singer released his self-titled debut album in May 2017.

He ditched the basic One Direction pop sound and turned to rock and folk influences, which became the hallmark of his three solo albums.

The artist’s first solo effort received favorable reviews and the album was featured on several “best albums of 2017” lists. The album debuted at No.1 in several countries including the UK, US and Australia.

Meanwhile, the singer, who has always been open about his desire to appear on the big screen, made his acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s war epic Dunkirk.

His subsequent course is well known. His song “As It Was” rocketed to the top of the charts in both the UK and US, debuting at No.1 and staying at the top in America for 15 weeks! The No.1 longest running song in history. At the Grammys, ‘Harry’s house’ won Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, and won British Album of the Year at the Brit Awards.
