Fashion designer Zac Posen presented a new collection of elegant draped dresses and jumpsuits, but not on the runway.
A sea of chiffon in nine shades of blue and vibrant red flooded the stage at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York.
The occasion was its world premiere Concerto for Two Pianos to music by Francis Poulenc of New York City Ballet (NYCB) principal dancer Tyler Peck’s highly anticipated choreographic debut for the company.
Four years have passed since the company that bore his name went out of business, and Pozen has focused on private commissions and established himself as a force in the dance world. He collaborated with three new exponents of choreography emerging from the New York City Ballet in recent years: Peck and two former NYCB principal dancers turned choreographers, Lauren Lovett and his partner, Harrison Ball.
“I wanted someone who I knew understood ballet and the dancer’s body and could create a beautiful dress,” Peck told The Californian, explaining why she chose to work with Posen for her big moment. “There is no designer who understands the world of ballet better than Zac. He admires and respects art as a patron,” he noted.
