Matt Damon has confirmed that he is open to the prospect of starring in a new film in the Bourne franchise.

It was first reported in November that a new Jason Bourne movie could be in the works, with All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger in talks to direct the film.

Last week Matt Damon, who appeared on “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert, confirmed that Berger is indeed in the early stages of development of the new film and expressed interest in returning to the lead role.

“There’s a great director called Edward Berger,” Damon said. “‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ is a fantastic film and he’s great and he said he had an idea. I’d love to work with him, so he’s working on it. Look, I’m as anxious as you are to see if this happens. I hope it’s great and we make it.” he reported.

Damon went on to explain, however, that at 53, his days of reliably portraying the character may be numbered. “At some point, somebody’s going to have to take over. I’m not getting any younger,” said the actor.

Five films have been made so far in the Bourne franchise, which is based on a series of novels by Robert Ludlam. Damon has played ex-CIA agent Bourne in four of the five films since 2002. He did not appear in the fourth, 2012’s “The Bourne Legacy,” but returned for 2016’s “Jason Bourne.”
