British rock legends, the band queen, are closing in on a record-breaking $1.2 billion sale of their entire music catalog!

Some of the members of the group and the managers of his property Freddie Mercury are in advanced talks to sell the recording, publishing rights for more than double the current record of Bruce Springsteen, who sold the rights to his music for $550 million in 2021.

In addition to Springsteen and other famous artists such as Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Justin Bieber has collected a lot of money for their own collections. The “mammoth” deal for the Quenns – if confirmed – will demonstrate, as the “Daily Mail” writes, that the world’s biggest artists can continue to demand impressive sums for their collections, industry experts say.

Disney Music Group owns the rights to Queen’s music in North America. However, the band retains ownership of the worldwide rights through UK-based Queen Productions Ltd, which earned £39m ($48m) in royalties in 2021. Guy Blake, a leading music industry lawyer who has work in catalog acquisitions said the deal would cause an “earthquake” if the rumors are confirmed.

Universal Music Group was the rumored frontrunner for the deal when details of the talks first emerged last summer.

After the Springsteen sale for $550 million, Bob Dylan is estimated to have earned the second-highest amount for a music catalog after receiving about $450 million in two separate deals.

Bieber’s catalog was sold to the Hipgnosis Songs Fund in January 2023 for $200 million. Hipgnosis previously bought 50% of Neil Young’s catalog in January 2021, in a deal that valued the entire collection at around $300 million.
