Chef Bela Gil, 34, criticized monogamy and celebrated the open marriage she has been living for 18 years with businessman and artist JP Demasi. She posted on Instagram a photo from 2007 with her husband to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Valentine’s Day in the United States and Europe.
“I have always disbelieved in MONO (CULTURES)! This colonialist and limited vision of monopolies, monocultures, monotheisms and monogamies often, but not always, unfolds in violence against the land (deforestation), against women (femicide), against religions (religious intolerance) and against the little ones (bankruptcy)!” he wrote.
“Enjoying Valentine’s Day, happy to add life with you, my love @jpdemasi. We’ve been together for 18 years and free to love!!! #naomonos”, he added.
JP Demasi commented on the post citing the lyrics of the song “O Seu Amor”, by the band Doces Bárbaros, formed by Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, Gal Costa and Gilberto Gil (Bela’s father and author of the song). ” Your love / Love him and let him free to love / Love him and let him go wherever he wants / Love him and let him play / Love him and let him run / Love him and let him -tir him/Love him and let him sleep in peace/Love him and let him be what he is.”
Famous and anonymous praised the couple. “Wonderful! Evolved. Safe. Free”, commented a follower. “Free to love. How wonderful this cry against all forms of mono”, wrote another.
“Gee, one more reason to admire you. I understand, but I can’t yet. There’s so much to deconstruct about what it’s like to be monogamous, how unnatural it is. Congratulations”, posted another fan. “Each one in his own time”, replied Bela Gil. The couple has two kids.
