This house in Kensington, which served as a retreat for the famous artist, was inherited by his friend, Mary Austin
The “Garden Lodge”, the beloved former residence of the late iconic Queen artist, Freddie Mercury, went on the market for the first time since his death in 1991 for bids of more than $38 million, according to the New York Post.
This house in Kensington, which served as a retreat for the famous artist, was inherited by his friend, Mary Austin. Austin has lovingly maintained the house and its contents, keeping it in almost the same condition as Mercury.
“This house has so much love and warmth in it in every room,” Mary Austin reported. “It has been a pleasure to live here and I have many wonderful memories here. Now that it’s empty, I’m transported back to the first time we saw it. It was a place of peace, a real artist’s home, and now it’s time to entrust that sense of peace to the next person.”
The star of Bohemian Rhapsody who died in 1991 at the age of 45 of bronchial pneumonia – which came from AIDS – was very weak in Austin. The two had entered into a love affair, which lasted for about seven years, and until the end of Mercury’s life, they remained very close friends.
