The Madonna revealed to her fans that she was unable to walk after her “near-death experience” last summer when she spent time in intensive care with a serious bacterial infection.

The 65-year-old “Queen of Pop” was rushed to hospital last June and was forced to postpone part of her tour “The Celebration Tour”which marked the 40th anniversary of her music career.

Opening the first of five shows at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, Madonna said the illness was a “surprise” and thanked a “very special person” in the audience, her doctor David Agus.

“When I was sick this summer and literally couldn’t walk from my bed to the bathroom I called him every other day,” said the famous singer. “I was asking him why I had no energy at all, when would my energy come back, when would I feel like myself again and when I could go on tour again. All he would say to me was: “Go out in the sun, you need vitamin D and your kidneys will continue to work.”

She described the ordeal as “quite terrifying” and revealed the first word she said when she woke up from the coma. “I didn’t know for four days because I was in an induced coma, but when I woke up, the first word I said was ‘no'”she pointed out, adding that this is what her assistant told her.

“And I’m sure God was saying to me, ‘Do you want to come with us?’ Would you like to come with me; Do you want to go from here?’ And I said, no, no.”
