Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger said he underwent heart surgery. The protagonist of the “Terminator” franchise said he had a pacemaker fitted a week ago and the procedure was a success. The announcement took place this Monday (25).
“I had surgery to become a little more machine: I got a pacemaker. First of all, I want you to know that I’m doing great! I had my surgery on Monday (18) and on Friday (22 ) was already at an event with my friend Jane Fonda. No one would ever imagine that I started the week with surgery”, he said on the Arnold’s Pump Club podcast.
Schwarzenegger had already undergone other heart surgeries. In 1997, he underwent a surgical procedure to replace his pulmonary valve as well as his aortic valve. The two valves lasted a few years and were replaced again in 2018 and 2020, respectively. The actor thanked the medical team who took care of him at the hospital. “All the doctors and nurses took great care of me and made the surgery as painless as possible.”
The actor, who apologized to the women who said they were “groped and humiliated” by him in 2003 in the documentary “Arnold”, has a genetic heart problem and discovered in a routine exam that he had scar tissue in his heart. Because of this diagnosis, doctors advised the placement of a pacemaker to regulate his heartbeat.
“I have received many messages and emails from people who were born with a bicuspid aortic valve, like me, telling me that talking about my valve replacement surgeries has given them courage and hope to deal with their own challenges,” said Schwarzenegger.
