Helen the Fair, Paris, Cassandra and Apollo graced the winter dining room of a wealthy family
A new hall 15 meters long and 6 meters widewith high black walls and impressive (albeit small in size) murals inspired by the Trojan WarHe brought the light after 2,000 years the archaeological dig in an ancient building in Pompeii.
The frescoes feature Helen the Fair, Paris, Cassandra and Apollowith a broader reference to heroism, but also to the power of fate.
“At night, with the lamps on, the mythical figures on the frescoes would certainly seem to move”the excited archaeologists explain.
The hall was the winter dining room in the mansion of a wealthy family and in this space the hosts ate and conversed with their guests.
The “black room” was excavated next to an inner courtyard and internal staircase, in which there is a charcoal drawing, in which two gladiators and a phallus are depicted.
“Pompeii is a treasure that always leaves us stunned. It continues to surprise us every time we open it and I am happy that in the last state budget we have increased the funds so that new excavations can take place,” said Italian Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano.
