Public Ministry of Portugal accuses woman of racism against children of Giovanna Ewbank and Bruno Gagliasso

The Public Ministry of Portugal accepted the complaint of the case of racism that occurred against the children of Giovanna Ewbank and Bruno Gagliasso in 2022.

On that occasion, a Portuguese woman attacked the couple’s children, Titi and Bless, in a restaurant in Costa da Caparica, a tourist destination in the country. The woman allegedly said racist insults to the two children and to an Angolan family who were at the scene.

This Friday (12), Giovanna celebrated on her social networks that the complaint was finally accepted by the Portuguese MP. In a text published on her Instagram profile, the actress states that the European country “overcame a theoretical issue” about where to frame the crime. She also thanked the work of her team of Portuguese lawyers.

At the time, Giovanna was filmed confronting the woman and her reaction went viral on the internet. “You disgusting racist,” said Titi and Bless’s mother. The suspect was detained, but released the same day.

“Almost two years ago we filed an accusation with the Portuguese Public Ministry after our children and a group of Angolans were victims of racism. Racism is a crime and cannot be trivialized,” wrote the actress.

“Initially, we asked that the author be framed for crimes set out in article 240 of the Portuguese Penal Code, which provides punishment for discrimination and incitement to hatred and violence. The complaint was not accepted, but we never gave up”, he continued.

“Today, we can celebrate because the Public Prosecutor’s Office accepted our accusation for defamation and racial insult and overcame a theoretical issue about where to classify the crime under the law. We won, but it is still a small step”, added Giovanna.

“However, we believe that, if this process can raise awareness on issues of combating racism, the world could, perhaps one day, be more equal. The next step will be the trial of the racist. We hope to return soon to report another victory”, he wrote.

“We thank the Portuguese lawyers Rui Patrício, Catarina Martins Morão and Teresa Sousa Nunes who remain by our side so that justice recognizes racism as a crime – a crime that discriminates, hurts self-esteem and does not allow black people to have opportunities. A crime that kills anywhere in the world. And we need to build a society that understands that racism cannot be tolerated, not even in the form of hatred disguised as a joke.”

Giovanna and Bruno are parents to Titi, 10, Bless, 9, and Zyan, 3.

O F5 He sought out the Public Ministry of Portugal to comment on the case, but received no response.
