In the broadcast of Sunday, April 14, Aris Portosalte and Mr. Pericles Vallianos, emeritus professor of Political Philosophy, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens told the story of the American revolution and the Declaration of Independence. At the start of the show they referred to the uprising of the British citizens of the 13 states of the east coast who wanted to become economically independent from the metropolis while they continued with the reaction of England who, on the orders of King George III, sent an army to suppress the revolution. In 1776 the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence whose main author was Thomas Jefferson, and was based philosophically on Locke, putting an end to the attempt to compromise with the crown. In addition, we heard about the help of France to the Americans against England and the role of General Lafayette. Next, a special reference is made to independence, the creation of the new federal state and the constitution.
