Victoria Beckham’s relationship with fame it counts decades. Few celebrities have managed to maintain their popularity over the years like she has. Today at the age of 50, Victoria looks more mature than ever.
She entered our consciousness as a singer with the Spice Girls, the best-selling girl group in history. When she then put her career on hold to start a family with soccer star David Beckham, the press presented a public image of her as elitist and arrogant. Her name is currently associated with the fashion industry, having made her debut as a designer in 2008. However, to many she is still known as Beckham’s partner, which she seems to take with a sense of humour. So much so that the company that bears her name has a white short-sleeve shirt emblazoned with the words “Beckham’s wife” for sale for $137.

Posh is now a successful businesswoman who after many years her company is doing well. In fact, she makes quite a bit of money now. “It’s such an exciting time. This year, we made a profit! This takes time, especially for an independent brand,” she revealed last October in an interview with the French edition of “Vogue”.

Her life before the Spice Girls phenomenon
The daughter of an electrical engineer and a hairdresser, Beckham is the eldest of three siblings. Victoria Adams was born in Essex into a wealthy family. In David Beckham’s documentary – which premiered on Netflix last year – she tried to emphasize the hard-working, humble nature of her family until her husband enters the frame and asks: “Which car did your dad take you to school in?”. At first, she refuses to answer, but finally gives in to her husband’s insistence, saying: “With a Rolls Royce”. This scene became the most talked about moment of the documentary.

As the BBC reported in 2002, the designer’s life changed in 1993 when she answered an ad in The Stage magazine, which was looking for girls who could dance and sing to audition for an up-and-coming girl group. Behind the invitation were the Bob and Chris Herbert, a father-son duo that represented music artists. The Herberts “closed” Adams and the rest of the group – Melanie Chisholm (Mel C), Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown (Mel B) and Emma Bunton – initially using the name “Touch”.
When this first attempt failed, the five young women decided to change managers and began working with Simon Fuller. They were renamed the Spice Girls. On July 7th 1996 they released their single ‘Wannabe’ in the UK and the rest is history.
“We had all fought in our own way. And I think taking five normal girls, putting them together and having them travel around the world was so exciting.”Victoria Beckham recently told ‘W’ about her experience as a member of the group.
Taking advantage of their success, they released two albums in a short time: ‘Spice’ in 1996 and ‘Spiceworld’ in 1997. In 2000 came ‘Forever’. They spent those years touring and becoming the most famous Brits on the planet.
Meanwhile, also in the United Kingdom, a young man named David Beckham was beginning to emerge as a star player for the Manchester United football team. Victoria and David experienced their rise to fame almost simultaneously. In 1997 they met up close and on July 4, 1999 they got married.

The Beckham era and the kidnapping plot
For the British tabloids, Posh and Becks, as they called the couple, they were the “hen with the golden eggs”. Photographers followed their every move and their every gesture was analyzed, giving rise to all kinds of rumours. “When people found out we were dating, the interest and hounding of the paparazzi and the media was something I had never experienced before.”he told “W” magazine.
This media onslaught had many consequences. The former singer experienced one of the scariest moments of her life when she found out for a plan to kidnap her. Scotland Yard eventually arrested nine people involved in the alleged kidnapping in 2002.

Her new venture and challenges
In 2019, her company grew with her creation “Victoria Beckham Beauty”a division that operates as an independent brand and has been well received. “I worked hard to get here, to be given this stamp of approval in Paris by both the fashion and beauty industries and you know what? This is something difficult to achieve”she recently told Allure.
Now she is launching a fragrance collection inspired by her life with her husband. They have been together for 27 years and his name is mentioned in almost every interview she does. Family life features in much of the content the designer shares on social media.

In her 50s, Victoria Beckham she now controls her image. She stopped caring what the press says and skillfully uses social media to get her own truth out there.
“As I was able to communicate through social media, people could see me for who I am. But let’s be clear: I never post to prove anything to anyone. I stopped worrying about what people think of me a long time ago. Thanks to social media, people now see me as a hard worker, wife and mother… they see my real personality”she recently said in an interview.
