Snow-covered or green, autumn or spring, Lake Plastira, in the Regional Unit of Karditsa, presents images of rare beauty in a pandemonium of colors, landscapes and sensations. The depth of the lake varies and is determined by the topography of the area before it is covered by water. It contains 400 million cubic meters of water, has a maximum length of 12 km, a width of 4 km and a total surface of 24 km. Its maximum depth reaches 60 m and the highest altitude reaches 750 m, according to municipal data Lake Plastira. THE Plastira Lake is an ideal destination for alternative holidays and for Easter. It combines landscapes of incomparable natural beauty with customs and traditions that exude religiosity and tranquility. At noon on Good Friday in the historic Koroni Monastery, on a specially shaped hill, the Crucifixion takes place. On the same evening, the procession of the Epitaph is held in all the churches of the villages, while in Neohori the event “Arate Pylas” takes place. At the time of the Resurrection, in almost all villages, the custom of burning the aphanos, a haystack made of cedar and fir branches, is revived in almost all villages, in which they set fire while the priest gives the Holy Light, chanting “Christ is Risen”. The custom symbolizes the Resurrection and Ascension of Christ to heaven, but also the purification through fire.

On the Sunday after the resurrection vespers, at 6 pm in the squares of some villages they “set up” the “double dance”, a religious dance which is started first by the priest of the village while the song refers to the resurrection of Jesus. Then follow other songs with a special characteristic that often the dances “fold” and become two, one for the female gender and one for the male gender and when unfolded they become four. The treat that day is wine and red eggs. In some villages, on the second day of Easter after the service in the church, the “Signa” custom is revived with a procession of icons and six-winged angels, who circle the village singing Christ is Risen, thus protecting the Community from all evil.
