‘Madonna changed the world’, says author of the singer’s newest biography

by

About to perform a historic show closing the “Celebration Tour”, Madonna has launched her biography “Uma Vida Rebelde”, by journalist Mary Gabriel, in Brazil. The publication, from the publisher BestSeller, it has more than 850 pages and brings facts and stories about Madonna Louise Ciccone, 65, who emerged in the first half of the 80s, and began to write her name in the pop music scene until then dominated by men like Michael Jackson, for example. In 1982, she released the first single “Everybody”. And she never stopped.

The singer launched trends and fads and never shied away from showing her position in front of anything or anyone. Cultural, religious, social and political issues have always been topics covered in her lyrics and, on several occasions, this has made the singer the target of controversy and voracious criticism. She also defended issues such as female sexual freedom, the rights of the LGBTQIAPN+ community, anti-racism and the fight against patriarchy, machismo and xenophobia.

The biography “Madonna: A Rebel Life” also covers her childhood, family life, her mother’s religiosity, moving from Michigan to New York, entering the world of dance and the discovery that she could and wanted to make music.

Mary Gabriel took five years of research and dozens of interviews to write the biography. “Some artists live in a protective bubble. Madonna is the opposite. Her work reflects and responds to what is happening around her, be it where she is living, what is happening politically and socially in the world, or what is happening in his personal life,” he said in an interview with CNN.

She concluded: “The real Madonna, the far more interesting character, is the artist Madonna. I discovered that Madonna is little known and understood even less. I felt it was important to tell her story because this Madonna changed the world.”
