Advertisement improperly uses image of Daniel Alves to promote online casino

by

It is a false advertisement on Kwai according to which former player Daniel Alves would be distributing R$500 million to anyone who registers on a betting app. The advertisement uses a CNN report and video recorded by the athlete with audio doctored using artificial intelligence.

Initially, presenter Muriel Porfiro announces that the former player “is donating his savings to all Brazilians so as not to lose them after the trial”. Convicted of rape in Spain, he is on provisional release after posting bail, but Muriel’s original video is not about Alves. The excerpt used in the false advertisement is from the program “Brasil Meio-dia”, on March 12, when the journalist reported that the Ministry of Finance once again had a seat on the Petrobras Board of Directors.

Next, Daniel Alves appears saying that, in his online casino, “everyone can win”, but the audio, with a voice similar to his, was inserted digitally. A Sheet found the original video, published after he was called up by Tite for the 2022 World Cup.

Alves’ press office, contacted by the report, said it was a manipulation carried out by artificial intelligence and denied any relationship between him and the betting company.

Who also appears in the false advertisement is Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos). “It’s incredible, two days ago I earned R$300,000”, says the audio inserted over the parliamentarian’s voice. After being warned by the report about the content, Soraya’s team informed her that she would file a police report. “It is unacceptable that we are exposed to the crime of fraud due to the unbridled use and without any type of control of artificial intelligence”, stated the advisory.

Kwai said it understands the spread of misinformation as a “universal challenge for all social media platforms” and that it “permanently invests in its moderation structure.”

The betting app and CNN were contacted for the report, but did not respond until the publication of this text.

Other cases

The unauthorized use of images of celebrities to sell products and services has been increasingly used. In addition to Daniel Alves and Soraya Thronicke, other people who have already been victims of this type of scam were presenters Ana Maria Braga and Luciano Huck and actors Mateus Solano and Gloria Pires.
