Madonna was in love with Antonio Banderas while the actor was married; remember

Madonna’s visit to Brazil for a public performance on Copacabana beach, Rio de Janeiro, made internet users remember the documentary “Truth or Dare” about the pop diva’s “Blond Ambition” tour.

In the 1991 production, the singer talks about the passion she had for years with Antonio Banderas while the Spanish actor was married. In production, Madonna says that she watched all of his films and that Banderas was one of the few people she would die to meet. The two met for the first time at a dinner in Madrid hosted by filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar.

“I spent the whole week psychologically preparing myself for this party, I had everything organized in my head and I thought ‘I’m going to make Antonio fall madly in love with me’. But there was an important obstacle that I never really told: his wife.”

At the time, the actor was married to actress Ana Leza. Madonna and the artist met again in 1996, when they starred together in the film “Evita”. However, he was already married to Melanie Griffith, mother of actress Dakota Johnson.

Years later, Almodóvar recalled the dinner and demonstrated that he did not like the way the queen of pop behaved at all. In the book in which he recounts his days in quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic, he wrote that Madonna treated them with disrespect.

“She didn’t ask permission to use our images and even captioned me because my English shouldn’t be that good,” he wrote. In another excerpt, he states that the singer chose the seating arrangement at the tables and that she left Antonio away from his wife.

“At the end of dinner, Ana dared to approach our table and sarcastically said to the blonde: ‘I see you with my husband, it doesn’t surprise me, all women like him, but I don’t mind because I’m very modern’. To which Madonna replied: ‘Go away'”, narrated the filmmaker.

In an interview given in 2019, Banderas stated that he had no idea that the singer was in love with him and said that she was one of the most committed artists he had ever worked with.
